Get Out the Vote: Empowering the Women’s Vote
Every four years since 2000, AIGA has activated its community of designers across the U.S. and beyond to Get Out the Vote. The campaign is part of Design for Democracy, an AIGA initiative to increase civic participation through design. In 2020, AIGA recognizes the centennial of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote in 1920 with a special edition of Get Out the Vote: Empowering the Women’s Vote. It commemorates the first legislation for women’s voting rights. Not until the passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965 were voting rights of all women protected and enforced. Join us for a panel discussion with Nancy Skolos, Kelly Salchow MacArthur, Kelly Walters, and the League of Women Voters' Maggie Bush, moderated by the Chair of AIGA's Design for Democracy, Frances Yllana. We will touch on women's fight for voting rights and equality, the GOTV initiative featuring exciting work by women in design today, and AIGA's partnership with the League of Women Voters. Panelists: Frances Yllana, AIGA Design for Democracy Chair Kelly Salchow MacArthur, Professor, Michigan State University Nancy Skolos, Professor, Rhode Island School of Design Maggie Bush, Programs and Outreach Director, League of Women Voters Kelly Walters, Assistant Professor, Parsons School of Design
