2012 Emerging Professionals Workshop
What does it take to launch and build a successful career as a designer?
AIGA CT & TCG’s 2012 Emerging Professionals Workshop presents insights for students and young professionals on how to land a job and stay in-demand in today’s creative business environment.
Through an interactive panel discussion at CCSU, The Creative Group, Cronin & Co., ESPN and Chris Piascik will provide their unique perspectives on the skills and attitudes needed to succeed.
After the discussion, students and young professionals may opt to have a portfolio review* by the panel, in addition to some of CT’s top creative minds.
At the event, AIGA CT will also reveal its new and innovative Emerging Professionals Program, which provides an opportunity for young professionals to use creativity to benefit their communities.

* Students and young professionals who wish to participate in the portfolio review MUST pre-register for this option. No walk-ins allowed. Please bring around 5 samples of your work -- Printed and digital formats are both acceptable and work in-progress is also welcome. Participants will meet with multiple professionals who will listen to your presentation for 10 minutes, and then provide 3 minutes of feedback.

PANELIST BIOS
Kendra Amos is an Account manager for The Creative Group. The Creative Group specializes in placing Creative and Marketing talent on a permanent or project basis. In her former life she was a graphic designer for 10 years working in NYC. Her graphic design background helps her place top talent at the most admired companies in Connecticut.
Ron Cote is an Account Manager for The Creative Group, handling the Connecticut and Western Massachusetts territories. His primary role is calling on clients who could use TCG's services to fill a needed role. Ron has an extensive Sales and Marketing background which allows him to understand all aspects of business.
Victal (Vic) Lopes is a graphic designer born and raised in the tropical climate of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is currently working as the Sr. Art Director for ESPN Digital Media Group and over the years has performed a number of key roles at a range of companies, from small studios to large agencies to internationally recognized media brands. He is obsessed with beautiful design, expressive typography, elegant code, and intuitive interaction. He is presently leading the ESPN design efforts for international sports, long form journalism and online live event coverage.
An artist who recently held his sixth solo exhibition, Chris Piascik is also active in the design community. With 6 years of professional experience at award-winning firms in New England, he is currently working as a freelance designer and illustrator. With a knack for sleep-deprivation Chris also posts daily drawings on his website and maintains Print Brigade, an online store featuring apparel, prints and zines he has designed.
Wayne Raicik is VP, Associate Creative Director at Cronin and Company. He has helped create memorable and effective print, web and TV advertising for the CT Lottery, Northeast Utilities, Twinings Tea, Garelick Milk and Tuscan Dairy. Wayne has also designed award-winning logos for Konica Minolta, the CT Lottery, Centerplate and The Harriet Beecher Stowe Center. Some of his better known work has been cited by The Advertising Club of Boston (Hatch Awards), The Connecticut Art Directors Club, Print Magazine, Communication Arts Magazine and Adweek. Wayne is a graduate of Syracuse University.
