Featuring Ann Willoughby at Billings Forge Community Works
As creatives, we put design thinking into practice every day with clients. But, what happens when we apply that thinking outside of the office to other places and spaces? Inspiration that leads to transformation.
AIGA CT, in coordination with Sappi Fine Paper and Billings Forge Community Works, invites you to spend an evening with nationally respected designer Ann Willoughby of Willoughby Design as she shares stories of unique spaces and how they deepen our work and play, change lives and shape a community. This event includes dinner of handmade pizza that you and other guests will create with the wheat grown and harvested (all by bicycle!) by Billings Forge artist-in-residence Ted Efremoff of Bread Cycle Works.
Sappi will be available to discuss the Ideas That Matter grant program and Billings Forge Community Works leaders will share experiences of what it's like to create a strong, vibrant and authentic community in a neighborhood that might otherwise get overlooked. For anyone inspired by design thinking and how it impacts a local community, this is a must attend event!

PARKING:
here is an open parking lot between the The Studio at Billings Forge and the Firebox restaurant and you are welcome to park there. If this lot is full, there are plenty of spots at The Lyceum on 227 Lawrence Street. This is the street parallel to Broad Street. To get from the Lyceum parking lot to The Studio, there is a gated, but unlocked entry way across the street from the Lyceum. Enter this gate and follow the signs to The Studio.

ANN WILLOUGHBY, President and Chief Creative Officer of Willoughby Design in KC, is a nationally respected brand identity and experience designer. Ann is a former board member of the AIGA National Board of Directors. In 2006, she was named the first design leader from the Kansas City area to become an AIGA Fellow. Ann is a board member of the Kansas City Architectural Foundation and former board member of The Kansas City Zoo, The Children’s Place, DeLaSalle Education Center, HOW Magazine and Harvesters—The Community Food Network.
BILLINGS FORGE COMMUNITY WORKS is a community development non profit in the Frog Hollow neighborhood of Hartford. Billings Forge or BFCW provides job opportunities and job training; enrichment and educational programming for children and adults; an artist residency program creating community-based projects (arts workshops programming for the whole community); small business enterprises such as a farmers’ market, catering company and artisanal bakery; and a computer lab and instructional homework club (technology lab and instruction).
BREAD CYCLE WORKS plants and harvests wheat in the Frog Hollow section of Hartford, Connecticut, and then turns that wheat into bread for its local community. Led by Ted Efremoff, Bread Cycle Works engages people in a communal way to affirm our relationship to the land and the physical and metaphoric sustaining qualities of bread.

Sappi's Ideas that Matter is the industry’s only grant program aimed at helping designers contribute their talents to the charitable activities that they care about most. Sappi believes that the creative ideas of designers can have an impact beyond the aesthetic and that those ideas can be a powerful force for social good.
